Slovenia

The republic of Slovenia is a beautiful and picturesque country that lies at the heart of Europe where the Alps and the Mediterranean meet the Pannonian plains and the mysterious Karst. Slovenia is about half the size of Switzerland and has a population of 2 million. It shares its borders with Italy, Austria, Hungary and Croatia. The capital city is Ljubljana which lies in the Ljubljana Basin. Slovenia has 46.6 km of sea coast which is an inch per inhabitant. The highest mountain is Triglav (2864 m) and makes a stunning national symbol. The official language is Slovene and is one of the South Slavic languages.

Slovenia makes a great tourist destination with it variety of attractions such as mountains, waterfalls, forests, caves, hills, plains, rivers, natural and landscaped parks, natural spas and the sea.
With its 20.273 sq. km you can ski in the morning and surrender yourself to the luxury of the Adriatic Sea in the afternoon for finally to finish off with a delicious Slovenian meal accompanied by some of the equally delicious wines that Slovenia is known for.

In 1991 Slovenia attained its independency from the former Yugoslavia and consequently led big changes with it. This was an important historic moment for Slovenia. We have successfully managed the transition from socialism to a market economy and have produced a stable growth in GDP (18.577 USD) and a flawless safety record.
The rate of unemployment presents 6.0 % of active population, considering ILO definition. Inflation rate for 2006 is 2,8%.  Slovenia is also known to be the most European out of all the ex-socialistic countries.

The next important historical change occurred on May 1st 2004 when Slovenia became a full member of the European Union, therefore bringing its creative and competitive industries into this huge market of over 450 million consumers.
